About The Temple
It's a little controversial, But as per Buddhist tradition, Lumbini is a Buddhist pilgrimage site in the Rupandehi District of Nepal where Queen Mayadevi gave birth to Siddhartha Gautama (Buddha) in 563 BCE. However, India claims that that Buddha was born in India.
What's Inside?
Lumbini has a number of temples, including the Mayadevi Temple and several others which are still under repairing. Many monuments, monasteries and a museum. There are different monasteries for each country inside the temple area, which you can cover through e-rickshaw or by walk. It takes 3-4 hours easily to cover all the monasteries and most of them close by 5-6 PM. So try to go during early morning (As it is tiring to cover them all during noon time). There are many gates from where you can enter and take the exit. So make sure you note down the gate from which you get entered.
Mayadevi Temple - There is no photography allowed inside, where there is a stone which is claimed to be the place on which Buddha was born.

Why Lumbini Disappoints us?
However the city has no development at all. There is no market, no restaurants and no good hotels. Facilities are poor and development is really slow. The biggest shock to us was - "There was not even a single pure vegeterian restaurant in the entire city of Lumbini" Being a veggie, it was hard to get dinner there. We managed on samosa and chai for the entire time. There were also no guides, maps or instructions inside the temple premises, we got lost many times and took wrong exit due to which a "Rickshaw wala" fooled us.
